VA Secretary McDonough also attends the event in Florida.
First Lady Jill Biden spoke at a military spouse roundtable at Patrick Space Force Base in Brevard County, Florida, on Monday. Secretary Denis McDonough of the Department of Veterans Affairs also attended the event.
The first lady spoke about the veterans in her family who served on active duty and about the White House Joining Forces initiative to support military and veterans’ families, caregivers, and survivors. She assured her audience that their well-being and happiness matter to her and to the president.
She said she had met some Guardians and “had the opportunity to talk to them about the important work they’re doing, and about some of the unique challenges they face as they’re deployed in place – the time spent away from family and friends on long shifts and through odd hours. And I know that’s not easy for their loved ones either.“
The first lady added, “Because even though you don’t wear the uniform, you and your children serve this country as well. That’s why we have to make sure that your service is an opportunity of dignity and honor, of pride and accomplishment – for the entire family.“
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the first lady as she endeavors to support military personnel, their spouses, caregivers, and survivors through the Joining Forces initiative.
- For the safety of First Lady Jill Biden as she travels around the nation.
- For wisdom for Secretary McDonough as he heads the VA Department.
